    NORTHANTS CELEBRANT

    MARTIN SAWERS

    Family and Funeral Celebrant

Thank you for taking the time to visit this website. We would appreciate you sharing this on social media to help spread the word on services that are available to all.

Since 2019, I worked with the homeless and street community and it was in that time, I became a celebrant initially to ensure the homeless community would receive a dignified funeral. Often there would be no family involved and the funeral would be welfare funded, which of course would mean a service was not given. I pride myself in providing a dignified service for the homeless community free of charge.

My career as a Family and Funeral Celebrant allows me to celebrate both life and death, tailored to the individual’s requirements.

Naming ceremonies are not only for new-borns but for anyone. In particular, I have the privilege to carry out transgender naming ceremonies.

Additionally, wedding and vow renewal ceremonies are given the upmost attention to ensure your day is exactly as you wish. Wedding ceremonies will of course be in accordance with the legal requirements of the Registrar official documentation.

Funeral services are always dignified and again tailored to the requirements of a loved one’s family.

I have had the privilege of being able to sit with individuals at the End Of Life to write a service as they want it. This is a humbling experience that offers a special service that feels more personalised, family and friends commented that they could just hear their loved one saying the words I delivered. This gives our loved ones the opportunity to have their final say, which is normally with their sense of humour injected. The End Of Life funeral service is definitely the most humbling and sincere service I provide.

As a celebrant, I have the honour and privilege in conducting ceremonies that mark some of life's biggest milestones. As well as officiating weddings, celebrants officiate at vow renewals, baby naming ceremonies and funerals. For each of the services I offer, you can be assured that I will create a bespoke, meaningful ceremony that is as you would wish it to be.

In addition to those mentioned above, other services that I officiate, include:

    • Family Commitment Ceremonies
    • Civil Partnerships
    • Same Gender Marriages
    • Transgender Naming Ceremonies
    • Memorial Services
    •  Interment of Ashes.

A celebrant can offer you a bespoke service, for any celebration or commemoration.

    Our Promise

The reason I became a Celebrant was to offer a dignified service to the homeless community to ensure they got the send off  they rightly deserved.

This is something that I will always provide free of charge to those from the homeless community or those who will receive a full Welfare Funded Funeral (proof of this will be required to secure my services).

Your Celebrant will create a personalised ceremony for you.

Marriage is legally binding, to comply with the law, a short signing at the registry office of a marriage or civil partnership is required. I can assist in the arranging of this for you. This is a very quick formality that can be carried out before or after your Civil Ceremony.

You are then then free to allow your imagination to run wild to create a perfect, personal celebration which I will be honoured and privileged to assist, guide, advise and carry out for you.

In order to create the perfect ceremony for you, I will help and make suggestions if needed for vows, poems, readings and music, involving you and others.

Following on from the ceremony, you will be presented with a script of the day to commemorate your professional, bespoke ceremony.

Marriage is legally binding, however, Vow Renewals do not have the same legal requirements, which allows you to let  your imagination run wild.

The ceremony can be held anywhere you wish. Permission  may be required if your service is help in a public space, although your home or garden will reduce any  un-necessary complications.

Be romantic, have your event at the place you first met, at your favourite place, the choice is yours.

Your service can be as formal or informal as you wish, use your original vows or create new vows as you would wish. Hand-fasting ceremonies (tying the knot) are popular in Vow Renewals and something you may wish to consider.

The ceremony has no legal standing but it is an opportunity for a public gesture of love and support for your child.

We will ensure that your ceremony is a special event and will tailor your ceremony to suit your child’s age and your family situation.

Facing the Inevitable: Pre-Planning with Compassion

As a funeral celebrant, I urge you to embrace the conversation we often shy away from: death.

Facing the Inevitable: Pre-Planning with Compassion

As a funeral celebrant, I urge you to embrace the conversation we often shy away from: death.

When we discuss our wishes openly, we lift the veil of uncertainty. Loved ones deserve to know what you envision—a celebration of life, a quiet farewell, or something in between.

By pre-planning, you empower those who will carry out your wishes. They won’t be left guessing; they’ll have a service that you wrote with my help to honour your legacy.

Grief is complex enough. Let’s simplify it. Documenting your desires—whether it’s a woodland burial, a heartfelt eulogy, or a scattering of ashes—reduces the burden on those left behind.

We tiptoe around the topic, as if silence could delay the inevitable. We assume there’s always time—tomorrow, next year, someday. We fear that discussing it might invite fate.

Please, consider this: pre-planning is an act of love. It’s a gift to your family—removing additional pressures as they grieve for you.

Traditional or unconventional? Flowers or charitable donations? What stories do you want echoing through generations?

These are all things you can put in place to relieve your loved ones of that added pressure.

Let’s sit together,  I’ll provide the tools—the forms, the guidance—to pre-plan. We’ll honour your wishes, your quirks, your essence.

Remembering those I respectfully conducted the service for

With kind permission from their family.

    John Blair 4th April 1954 – 16th Sept 2023

    John Blair 4th April 1954 – 16th Sept 2023

Darren was a well known character in Corby and Kettering, he will be sadly missed by all.

Wherever Darren went he would impact the lives of others, his friends would describe Darren as Kind, Happy, Fun and Loyal.

He was always looking out for those less fortunate than himself.

    John Blair 4th April 1954 – 16th Sept 2023

    John Blair 4th April 1954 – 16th Sept 2023

We remember  his smile, his frown, his quizzical look, his BLAIR stare, his sense of humour, his great personality, and the way he lived his life. John, with his wife wrote his service, just to ensure that he got the last say in things. He had also left some special words for his loving wife, to be read at the service.

    Jevgenijs Belosejevs 10th Jan 1981 – 15th Nov 2023

Jevgenijs was a welcome guest to many of the Eastern European Community who were several years ago living in various campsites of Corby. He would meet with to share a beer with them but more importantly, to try and help them into work and accommodation.

    David George Lund 11th Feb 1951 - 5th March 2024

    Jevgenijs Belosejevs 10th Jan 1981 – 15th Nov 2023

Sarah wanted to prepare her own service and leave special messages for each of her family members.

Family love and importance was instilled in her by her loving Nan, and as a Nan herself, the relationship she has with her own grandkids as they were her absolute life.

Andy is probably best summed up by the words on social media, where a friend said of him.

He was an inspiration for me to become a good soldier, A true gentleman who will be sorely missed by many. He was a good man, a good soldier, and a good Celtic Supporter.
